About John & Camille Staropoli

Originally from Westchester County, New York, John started his career after attending college at Faimont State College in West Virginia.  His teacher, Master Potter D. Miezenkowski stressed fine forms and accepted nothing else.  After graduating, John and his wife Camille moved to Florida in 1978.  John continued to work with stoneware, but felt it was too repetitious, he did not enjoy the production work.  He would rather be more creative in form and color.  John then changed clay bodies to a white earthenware and underglazes.  He also added slab building to his technique.

John specializes in creating one of a kind, free form "tiles".  His objective is to give each one its own personallity, no two tiles are alike.. John uses a lot of  rich bold colors.  Each design is original, using brush work, and a syringe.  His designs have alot of energy & life.   He lays out large sheets of clay and then free cuts them to create various shapes.  He designs differen't templates to create  various  tables, wall pieces, and mirror frames.  The tiles are put into hand made wrought iron or wood frames.  One popular piece is "Double Arch Foyer table".

John and Camille exhibit throughout the U.S., at juried art festivals, mainly in Florida, New York, Philadelphia, Michigan, Minneapolis, Madison, WI., Maryland, Massachusetts,  Indiana and Ohio.  For current 2007 Schedule of shows please go to the 2007 Schedule page.  John and Camille reside in Port St. Lucie, Florida since 1982, they have two great kids; John-Paul and Lindsey.
